Football - 45 mins of ad-free viewing

A football post because of the FIFA world cup is going to start today in Brazil.

In my school days, cricket was always the sport which we played. Football was very rare. Sometimes we used to have matches between juniors (I was a junior) and seniors. The result was always a win for seniors, because we juniors won't have a plan, we (juniors) just run behind the ball, while the seniors will position players for specific role. It didn't strike us to plan, but by the time we realized it, the matches didn't happen. Most of my friends thought it will be easy to beat the seniors in Cricket than in Football. But even in cricket we lost !. Maradona was a buzzing name then and still!.

Watching live matches started in 1994 World Cup in USA. Italy’s pony-tailed Roberto Baggio was my favorite. Unfortunately I missed seeing finals with the time zone confusion! Baggio hit the bar and Brazil won the cup.

1998 WC in France- School just opened and this was the only topic to discuss. Every matches was dissected to the core. We all were rooting for Brazil, but France walked past Brazil at ease. My friend said sotta thalaiyan Zidane, avan mandaiyalu oru kottu kotanum

Unmissable moment - Brazil’ lame fight in finals !

2002 WC in South Korea-Japan. The World Cup started with a sweet surprise. Our parama ethri France was beaten by Senagal! In the finals Brazil’ Ronaldo with his unique hair style went on to script a double goal and took the cup.

Unmissable moment - Turkey & South Korea dream run.

2006 WC in Germany. Now already into my first job, didn't have time to catch all the matches. But did not miss out the final, this was between our parama ethri France, especially Zidane and Italy.

Unmissable moment was Zidane head butting Materazzi. Nenchila irukura manja soora edukuradu.

2010 WC in South Africa. Except the hosting in Africa and the sound of Vuvuzela nothing exciting happened. Or if I remember correctly nothing controversial happened. Spain was good, the tiki-taka was good to watch, but later it became boring and all the fun was lost when they won the finals.

I particularly like to watch football over cricket on TV, because its ad-free. At least for 45-mins we can concentrate on something and enjoy it. I don't have any favorites this time.
Happy viewing!
